플라즈마(plasma)와 핵융합(nuclear fusion)
지구상의 동식물 등 생명체가 살아가는데 필요한 에너지원인 태양을 사람의 손으로 만들 수는 없을까? 제 2의 태양 즉 인공태양의 탄생은 과연 언제쯤이나 이루어질 수 있을까?
머 리속에 과학적 사고가 자리잡지 않은 사람이라면 '별 뚱딴지같은 소리 다 들어보겠다' 고 핀잔만 줄 법한 생각이다. 그러나 오늘날 에너지문제가 중요한 사회적 해결 과제로 부각됨에 따라 누구나 한번쯤 가져봄직한 생각이다. 과학자들 역시 이미 오래 전부터 인공태양에 관한 연구를 지속해 왔으며 플라즈마과학을 비롯해 토카막, 핵융합발전 등이 바로 인공 태양을 탄생시키기 위한 일련의 연구들이다. 본래 플라즈마란 고체, 액체, 기체에 이어 제 3의 물질상태를 일컫는 말이다. 모든 물체는 온도가 올라감에 따라 고체에서 액체로 액체에서 기체로 변하며 이 기체 또한 섭씨 수만도에서는 전자와 원자핵으로 분리돼 플라즈마 상태가 된다.
우 주 전체의 99% 이상이 플라즈마라 추정되나 일상생활에서는 그리 흔치는 않다. 북극지방의 오로라 또는 별의 내부 및 그를 둘러싸고 있는 주변의 기체가 바로 플라즈마 상태이며 별과 별사이의 수소 기체 또한 플라즈마 상태라 과학자들은 추정하고 있다.
태양은 매초 4×1026 J의 열을 발산한다. 이 열은 태양의 중심부를 이루는 99%의 수소와 극소수의 헬륨이 고온의 플라즈마 상태 속에서 핵융합을 일으키며 발산되는 것이다. 태양은 반영구적인 핵융합로이며 과학자들이 연구 중인 인공태양은 결국 핵융합로의 건설인 셈이다. 이같은 핵융합연구의 시발이 바로 플라즈마과학이다. 수백 만도에서부터 수억도에 달하는 극한상태의 물질인 플라즈마를 가둬두는 시설이 곧 플라즈마 연구시설이다. 이 장치는 전자레인지의 원리와 비슷하다. 전자레인지가 전파로 음식을 익히듯 고주파를 이용해 이 플라즈마를 태양의 내부온도와 엇비슷한 수천 만도까지 가열시켜 초고온 플라즈마를 장치안에 가둬두고 활용하는 것이다.
국내에도 95 년 6월 플라즈마 공동연구시설인 '한빛'이 대덕연구단지내 기초과학지원연구소에서 준공됨에 따라 인공태양 연구의 첫걸음을 내딛게 됐다. 다시 말해 21세기 미래 에너지 기술인 플라즈마 핵융합연구의 국내 연구기반을 마련하고 국제 핵융합 실험로(ITER) 개발 계획에도 참여를 가능케 한 것이다. 태양의 엄청난 에너지 생산능력이 바로 핵융합반응에서 나온다는 점은 곧 핵융합반응의 위력이 어느 정도인가를 짐작케해 주고 있다.
우 라늄과 같은 원자핵이 분열될 때 생성되는 에너지를 이용하는 핵분열과는 달리 핵융합은 중수소와 같은 가벼운 원자핵들이 서로 만나서 헬륨과 원자핵으로 융합할 때 생성되는 에너지를 이용하는 것이다. 핵분열을 이용하는 원자력발전이 방사성 폐기물을 양산, 그 처리에 골머리를 앓는 것과는 대조적으로 핵융합은 방사능의 오염이 거의 없고 원료인 중수소 역시 바닷물 속에 널려있어 수천 년 이상 인류가 필요로 하는 에너지를 공급할 수 있는 것이다. 핵융합발전 연구방식의 하나인 토카막을 지난 40여년 동안 전세계 과학자들이 연구해 오게 된 것은 소련의 아시모비치가 토카막이란 핵융합로를 개발하면서부터다.
그 러나 인류가 핵융합에너지를 이용하기 시작한 것은 이보다 앞서 진행된 수소폭탄의 실험에서였다. 미국은 51 년과 52 년 수소폭탄 실험을 통해 핵융합에너지의 위력이 어느 정도인가를 실감했다. 과연 원자폭탄과 수소폭탄의 위력은 어느 것이 더 셀까. 같은 질량에서 얻는 에너지의 양은 핵융합 반응이 핵분열 반응에서보다 7배나 많다. 결국 수소폭탄이 원자력폭탄보다 더 파괴력을 갖는다.
환경운동이 매우 활발한 유럽에서는 핵융합연구가 정치적 또는 사회적으로 지원 속에서 진행되고 있다는 점은 시사하는 바가 매우 크다.
현재 유럽공동체에서 JET라는 이름의 토카막 핵융합실험로가 운영 중이며 미국, 일본, 유럽, 러시아 국제공동연구로 ITER이 라는 이름의 토카막 방식의 핵융합발전원형로가 설계 중이다. 세계 핵융합연구의 주안점 가운데 하나는 이 ITER 장치를 건설하는데 필요한 초고온 내열재료초전도체 자석 등 공학적인 연구와 이 장치의 경제성을 더욱 개선해 원자력발전 또는 화력발전 등과 경쟁할 수 있는 연구 즉 차세대 토카막 연구에 두고 있다.
핵융합이 일어나기 위해선 1억도 이상의 고온과 반응이 지속적으로 발생되도록 이들 입자들을 한데 가둬둬야 한다. 그러나 1억도 이상이나 되는 고온의 플라즈마를 가둬둘 용기가 과연 있겠는가. 상상조차 가지 않는 1억도 이상의 고온 플라즈마를 가둬두는 방법이 풀어야 할 연구과제 가운데 하나인 것이다.

Our slovak and czech team is working on prototype of plasma receiver as well as others do.
Current status can be seen in the following document which has its construction description, photos and many questions do be answered as well:
Slovak Receiver
The project is close to be ready for experimentation.
Our construction is not done by computer driven tools but it is "hand made" because first we want to experiment and gain experiences with receiver principles and possibilities.
After this learning period, we can invest more resources (and money) to prepare more advanced and precise constructions using hitec tools and rapid prototyping facilities.
Anyway my opinion is that we should cooperate more closely and openly together. I do not want to continue in current corrupted system way of doing thinks so that only small part has profit from work of others, competition is daily business instead of kind cooperation, individuals want to win instead of helping others, ...
Developers and thinkers and supporters should talk together to share views, opinions, guidance, resources etc.
Some developers share their outcomes which is good.

I think we should better coordinate our efforts so that we do not need to reinvent things and processes and waste our time, but instead of it we can reuse and enhance them.
Mr. Keshe, Your open guidance is quite important to us, because of Your experience and knowledge.
I know we do not know every detail needed yet, even Mr. Keshe does not, but we can move forward easier while sharing and cooperating and using reason together with intuition and spiritual guidance.
I hope our part of cooperation helps to encourage and gather us on the good and beneficial way :-)

Helium is filled with a special copper tube into the reactor. The exit hole for the He gas is very small, producing a fog inside the reactor chamber.

07:40 After all the gases are filled inside, the pressure inside will be 1 atmosphere. (= 0.1 MPa)
08:15 Next we prepare all the different meters: magnetic field detector, electric field detector, radiation detector, temperature detector.
09:18 Next we put on our protective clothing. This wire goes to the central column motor. The speed is now 3000 to 4000 rpm.

Note:
This is a work in progress. So far, because the experiment was not done correctly, there is no activation yet. However, after Mr. Keshe pointed out the problem areas, changes will be made to the design and try again. Stay tuned.
